The Disappearance of Tenshikins Ruon (First Quarter)
On the previous post I did promise you guys that I'll have to blurt out what happened to me during my sudden absence here in LJ for more than a year >.< But I'll have to minimize on the details so as not to bore you guys out
First Quarter : Broke (translation: I need a job >.<)
Being the lazy bastard that I am (up to now) the last resort my parents could do to mobilize my arse away from home was to cut off my allowance. That means I can no longer hang out at the mall arcade, laze around coffee shops reading a good old classic book, go out with my friends, or even eat noodles inside a convenience store during cold and rainy afternoons D: (I was living a life of comfort at the expense of others, I know...)
So I had to contact some of my old friends and try to probe in if there's any available cash-blooming-activities I can dive myself into. Luckily, my friend Alex who was in dire need of finding a substitute for her home-based-tutoring job called me since she was gonna head out to Manila to process her job-related papers (and laze around the metropolis as well) then brought me in to her employer, Mr. S. Yang.
The initial interview was quite a breeze but the moment I passed my resume he showed me that lock-jawed look. I don't know at that time if I should panic or not but thankfully my friend Alex whispered saying, "don't worry, he's just amazed *giggle* ". So I was immediately hired on the spot, with a big sigh of relief from Alex telling my that Mr. Yang's impression on me was exceptional. Of all the number of applicants according to my friend, there were only 2 who was exempted from taking the qualifying examinations from (including me) the said employer.
Thus my life as an English tutor began having to teach two Korean kids in the first week. Days passed and the number of students I had to take in increased, so did my number of working hours. I was already working full time after 2 weeks and so I never had the time to immerse on my net activities.
Racism was quite rampant at work as the kids were often telling me how poor my race is or how we look like monkeys (FU you lil racist bastards!). It got into me on the first few days but later on I was quite used to them. I didn't realize that I had my way around kids, so eventually the teasing and racism stopped. The biggest challenge was to take in the low-attention-span types with attitude problems (and the bane of all my colleagues at work, [plenty of kids = plenty of tutors]). The first day went out pretty much OK as we were able to finish the whole review book in a day.
(try to imagine the appalled looks my co-workers gave me as they had to endure with the problem kids with less than 15 minutes of attention span. The rest of the period spent on ripping books, notebooks, throwing pens [and other horrendous sharp objects] towards the other tutors - thankfully I never experienced those)
( ^^)v
There were moments that the low-attention-span-kids do become problem kids but they're fairly manangeable, just some tantrums and moments where these kids tend to doze off during the unholy hours
It was a fulfilling experience on my part seeing as how the "problem kids" tend to perform better in class under my wing, and how the smart-ass types get to attain perfect or nearly-perfect scores in the tests. My co-workers would ask me how I did those things but I simply replied that you just have to learn how to enjoy your time with the kids, and more importantly how to love and appreciate their performances, feeble as they may seem.
I was earning enough money to finance my lazing moments for half a year and I decided that maybe it was the right time to move on and find some work related to my profession, or just laze around for a few months or so. (I'm a nurse btw, but I don't like working in the hospitals that much :p haha) Plus there were crab-mentality issues I've been hearing and sensing from one suck-up-attention-whore-co-worker, whispering some bad ideas about me to my employer. Work related problems like that are normal according to my mom, but it was the first time I had to experience something like that. I don't know any ideas I can think of except to leave my job. Im not just gonna miss the kids, I'm gonna miss all those Korean dishes :<
